Apparently, he and his wife visited the city and they loved the food and thought is was terribly beautiful.Calvin Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17624125675718808522noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8676935904188068867.post-20687182166449380112012-10-25T22:36:20.496-05:002012-10-25T22:36:20.496-05:00Pearl Harbor was a military target. It would be vastly more valuable to educate Japanese children about the Nanking Massacre and other atrocities.Calvin Mhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17624125675718808522noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8676935904188068867.post-70553511399025186092012-10-24T04:32:40.879-05:002012-10-24T04:32:40.879-05:00All I see when I read this article is "it'...All I see when I read this article is "it's so hard being white"

Please. I think if we had been reading a passage about Pearl Harbor the roles would have been reversed (they'd feel awkward and I'd be the one saying "all governments make mistakes...").

And to Mr. (or Ms. or Mrs.) Anonymous, you're absolutely right. :) I don't think I did a very good job of wording my thoughts. It's a shameful blemish on America's history (like slavery was for America or like Hitler was for Germany). You're right that it isn't a personal shame. So you feel more shame for this than slavery, or hitler lets say. I think by you being here alone and your care enough to educate yourself abroad proves it is in the past. You are a great example of a new era, and shouldn't feel ashamed for history but explain it fairly as you can, but remember you are making a difference.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8676935904188068867.post-17508371498478204322012-10-18T02:41:51.059-05:002012-10-18T02:41:51.059-05:00Not saying the attacks on Japan weren't fucked...Not saying the attacks on Japan weren't fucked up, cuz it was all civilians... but Japanese children should know about Pearl Harbor too.Patrick Mnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8676935904188068867.post-11940275555124074062012-10-18T02:23:54.532-05:002012-10-18T02:23:54.532-05:00I don't think it's necessarily a matter of...I don't think it's necessarily a matter of "not getting it." I think that as an American, it is normal to feel embarrassment and shame over that horrible act of our country. In a lot of situations that shame comes off as "awkwardness," like I depicted above. When I applied for the program, I was warned that kids often ask "why did American leaders think it was okay to kill that many people?" I think the majority of my nervousness was a combination of shame and fear of having to answer that question.
Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04635178043257951603noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8676935904188068867.post-12794422491217974672012-10-18T02:09:12.030-05:002012-10-18T02:09:12.030-05:00Sad the kid gets it more than you.Sad the kid gets it more than you.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
